Here's a Mini Cooper S that we outfitted with a Thule Traverse roof rack system. This system uses the Thule 480 Traverse Foot Pack, the Thule Fit Kit KIT1366, the Thule Square LB50 load bars, and finally the Thule 487 Traverse Short Roof Adapter.
The rack can be set up to carry up to two bicycles without the need for the 487 Short Roof Adapter and provide 18 inches of space between the front and rear bars which is sufficent for bike mounts. In order to transport longer loaded such as cargo boxes or kayaks the 487 Short Roof Adapter is required to extend the distance between the bars to 24 inches which is the minimum for boxes and kayaks.
